Our Plumbing & Heating Division directly supports our domestic customer installations by undertaking plumbing & heating work in a wide variety of home improvement projects, including Kitchens, Bathrooms and Home Extensions.

In addition to being highly skilled and experienced in all aspects of domestic plumbing, the ideal candidates would also have experience with:

  • Plumbing & Heating requirements for all types of home extensions & home alterations.
  • Plumbing & Heating requirements for kitchen and bathroom installations and refurbishments.
  • Installation & maintenance of new and upgraded central heating systems.

An individual Gas Safe Register accreditation would be an advantage, but is not mandatory.

Landscaping Foreman

Thistle Gardens & Outdoors is your local one-stop-shop for everything you need to design and improve your garden or outdoor space!

Our highly-skilled team has transformed hundreds of gardens and outdoor spaces across Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire and North-East Scotland – all expertly designed and completely project-managed from start to finish.

In addition to Low-Maintenance Decking, Fencing & Artificial Grass we also provide a wide range of Landscaping services, including the formation of walls, patios, paving and steps.

We are currently looking for an experienced Landscaping Foreman to join our Installation Team.  The ideal candidate will have excellent practical experience in all aspects of landscaping work.  Of particular importance to this role is previous experience and knowledge of hard landscaping masonry – including brickwork, paving, cement-mixing and pointing.

The successful candidate will act as a key link between the work site and the office, assisting with the procurement and scheduled use of resources such as labour, equipment, and materials to ensure maximum use and completion of work within budget, safety guidelines and quality standards.

The skills, experience and responsibilities required for this role include:

  • Ensuring health & safety regulations and procedures are followed, ensuring a safe environment for everyone working on and around our installation sites.
  • Organisational and planning skills – including supervision of day labourers involved in any projects.
  • Willingness to mentor and train new staff.
  • Ability to work outdoors in all kinds of weather conditions.
  • Experience in all aspects of landscaping, such as paving (including porcelain), forming walkways and patios, building garden and small retaining walls, gabions, turfing, artificial grass and fencing.
  • Excavating sites and working with logistics to co-ordinate plant rentals, materials and labour.
  • Driving plant vehicles such as small diggers and ensuring that all garden plant and equipment is correctly maintained and serviced.
  • Ability to keep an accurate track of stock and inventory used on each project.
  • Excellent customer relations.
  • Ability to provide advice and guidance to customers on all relevant matters.
  • Flexibility to undertake a variety of tasks and projects.

Installations Project Manager

We currently have an opportunity for an Installations Project Manager to join our busy operations team.

Our operations team is tasked with the effective management of home improvement project installations from start to finish, ensuring they are completed to an exceptionally high standard and within a project-managed timescale – all while delivering the award-winning customer service that Thistle is known for.

The primary responsibilities of this role include:

  • Overseeing comprehensive pre-installation site surveys.
  • Preparing all required documentation and detailed paperwork to allow for a safe and efficient installation to proceed.
  • Acting as a key point of contact and a key communication link between the company and our customers.
  • Supervision of installation teams to ensure all quality control and health & safety procedures are adhered to at all times, both on-site and on company premises.
  • Carrying out regular installation site inspections and the preparation of reports for the attention of the Installations Director.
  • Working with our Installation Coordinators to ensure that all installations are effectively project managed from start to finish.

Architectural Technician

We are currently looking to recruit an Architectural Technician to provide support to our increasingly busy Architectural and Design Department.

Reporting directly to the Senior Architectural Technician, the successful candidate will have the following responsibilities:

  • Assisting our Sales Team with design proposals, compensatory glazing calculations & providing advice on current building regulations.
  • Carrying out site surveys to assist in the preparation of initial architectural drawing packages for Sales and Client approval.
  • Submission and progression of relevant Planning & Building Warrant approvals, including liaising with Structural Engineers and Planning & Building Warrant Officers.
  • Providing construction drawing packages to our Installations Department.
  • Providing assistance with site queries during the construction phase of projects.
  • Applying for Building Completion Certificates on completion of works.

The ideal candidate would be proficient with AutoCAD and have good working knowledge of Microsoft Office packages, backed up by excellent knowledge of construction and design.

Team working skills are essential and you will be expected to ensure effective and professional communication with all departments, disciplines and clients.

This role will require the successful candidate to:

  • Engage directly with customers visiting the Thistle Home Improvements Showroom in Aberdeen.
  • Carry out home visits to take project measurements and detail customer requirements.
  • Expertly design and quote kitchens using the latest 3D Design Software (Compusoft Winner).
  • Communicate effectively with our customers and deliver a design and quotation service tailored to their specific needs.
  • Provide continual feedback to our management team so that our kitchen design and quotation service effectively meets the ever-changing needs of our customers.

The skills required for this role include:

  • Experience in a customer-facing role with a proven track record in sales.
  • Excellent kitchen product knowledge and a keen eye for design.
  • A high level of experience with kitchen design software and pricing/quotation packages – first-hand experience with Compusoft Winner would be an advantage.
  • Excellent communication skills.
