uPVC Fencing

Durable, strong & long-lasting

Thistle’s uPVC Fencing systems allow you to revolutionise your outdoor living space, offering an attractive alternative to more traditional fencing products.

Traditional timber panel fences require hard work – they need painting or staining on a regular basis to prevent them from rotting and warping.

This can be a very tedious and time consuming job and without proper care and treatment wooden fences look tired, faded and can become a real eyesore.

Thistle uPVC Fencing is virtually maintenance-free, with no sanding, painting or staining required.  It is also 100% weatherproof and will never rot or rust – even in a salt air, coastal environment.

Our uPVC Fencing comes in a variety of styles to suit a wide range of requirements, whether you want the traditional look of Picket Fencing, create a more secluded garden with Semi Privacy Fencing or Gravelboard Fencing – or create a combination of all styles, the choice is yours!

Accreditations Explained

BS7976-2: The Pendulum Test (Skid Resistance & Slip Potential)

Thistle deckboards have demonstrated low slip potential during wet and dry test conditions, when tested using BS7976-2. The test produces a Pendulum Test Value (PTV) and a value above 36 indicates a low slip potential. In wet and dry test conditions, Thistle deckboards produced PTV’s of 48 and 55 respectively.

What this means to you:

The slip resistant qualities of Thistle deckboards mean that you don’t have to worry about using your deck during, or after, wet weather; something which we are more than familiar with in the North East of Scotland!

Similarly, the slip resistance of Thistle deckboards combine with its water resistant properties to offer a perfect poolside surface which is safe for adults and children alike. Importantly, Thistle deckboards are also ideal for constructing entrance ramps and steps to increase accessibility without compromising on safety or style.

BS EN 660-2: The Frick-Taber Test (Wear Resistance)

The Frick-Taber Test, or Volume Loss Method, determines the wear resistance of resilient floor coverings. Wear resistance is determined by the volume of material lost during extreme abrasion tests. Thistle deckboards demonstrated good wear resistance, recording a volume loss of more than 2mm3 but less than 4mm3. The results are then assessed against the specifications of BS EN 649 – homogenous and heterogenous polyvinyl chloride floor coverings.

What this means to you:

The impressive durability of Thistle deckboards mean that they will look as good as new, even after very heavy commercial or even light industrial use.

The remarkable wear resistance means that the wood grain effect of the deckboards is not lost, nor is the low slip potential. Try, as they may, children and animals will not damage the deck as it withstands the rough and tumble of everyday living, as well as more special occasions such as garden parties and al fresco lunches.

BS476 Part 7: 1997 (Fire Tests on Building Materials & Structures)

This test measures the rate and extent of flame spread. Thistle deckboards were subjected to the fire test, with the grain running both vertically and horizontally. The run of the grain did not affect the performance of the deckboards and they have been awarded with a Class 1 Fire Rating.

What this means to you:

The Class 1 Fire Rating offers owners the assurance that it is highly unlikely that a Thistle deck will ever set alight. Should this happen, the PVC-U will self-extinguish and will not fuel the fire in the same way that wooden decking and fencing would do. You can barbeque in confidence and commercial users can be sure that their customers are in safe hands on a Thistle deck.

BS 6399-1: 1996 (Load Bearing for Balustrades)

For domestic and commercial applications, barriers or balustrades should be installed where there is a difference in ground level greater than 600mm and 380mm respectively. BS 6399-1 tests the suitability of balustrades to prevent people from falling from areas subject to overcrowding (e.g., a Thistle deck). Extreme pressure was exerted at various points onto a Thistle balustrade and the sample passed the BS 6399-1 test.

What this means to you:

Quite simply, Thistle balustrades will protect people from falling from the deck. Users can lean on the balustrades without the risk of them breaking or collapsing, and this accreditation will certainly appeal to customers who want to keep their children safe when they play outdoors.

Static Load Test

The Static Load Test measured how much static weight a Thistle deck could withstand until it collapsed. The deck comfortably held six tonnes of static weight, and only collapsed when half of the load was dynamically dropped four times! This test was carried out on a Thistle deck supported by a made-to-measure galvanised steel subframe.

What this means to you:

This will be music to the ears of anyone who wishes for their Thistle decking installation to be used by as many people as possible. You can also safely use heavy garden furniture on your deck such as tables, chairs, patio heaters and barbeques, to entertain as many of your friends as you can gather.
